I bought one of these on closeout at Costco in 2005 to level LEGO train layouts on uneven terrain. It did the job well, but I only had two occasions to use it over the last 5 years. On the third occasion (this month in 2010), it no longer worked reliably (the laser intensity varied from visible to invisible, as though the spinning electrical contacts had oxidized). So, I got about an hour of use from the device before it failed.
